I. Overview

The syllabus is your tool for your home study work for Kaplan bar review courses. In your syllabus, you will find assignments for study in the books that came with your course, links to online assignments, practice exams, and class videos. A rigorous and highly structured home study program that complements class lectures is the key to passing the bar exam.

II. "Daily Assignments" Features

Sessions - When you open your syllabus to the "Daily Assignments" tab, you will see a list of all your class sessions. The first class session will be open so you can see the assignments associated with it. To open other class sessions, click on the button. To close class sessions, click on the button.

Assignments - Every assignment has a "Completed" box, an assignment name, a "Required" or "Recommended" designation, and the topic & format of the assignment.

  • Completion Box - All Required assignments must be completed to qualify for our "Pass-The-Bar" guarantee. For assignments that are done in course books such as "Do 33 questions in Kaplan Bar Review Multistate Workbook," you will need to check the completion box when you are done. For assignments that are done online like "Do Torts Checkpoint Quiz 1," the system will check the completion box once you have done the assignment.
  • Assignment Name - For online assignments, click on the assignment name to access the assignment.
  • Topic - The topic column shows the legal topic the assignment refers to. Since we have a lot of review assignments, you will often get an assignment on a topic that is different from the topic being covered in that day’s course lecture.
  • Format - The Format column shows whether the assignment is done in the book, on the computer, or as an online video.

Rollover Functionality - Rolling over assignments will either tell you to "Click to Complete" or if you have done an assignment that has an associated score like a Checkpoint Quiz or an essay, will give you the results.

Session Sorting - At the top of your syllabus, you will see two drop-down boxes: "Display" and "Organize by." Selecting an assignment from the "Display" drop-down will display only that assignment. "Organize by" allows you to sort the assignments by any of the column headings.

III. Attendance Features

The Attendance tab shows date, time, and location for every class session. Note, this tab is not relevant for online courses. The attendance tab also shows that you have attended a specific class and is another requirement for the Kaplan Bar Review "Pass-The-Bar" guarantee. Please note, there is sometimes a delay between when classes occur and when attendance is posted.

IV. "Additional Practice" Features

The "Additional Practice" tab is the location of three applications:

  1. MBE General Bar Review Qbank - This is an online quiz creation program for the MBE exam. General Bar Review and Multistate students get a 1,000 question Qbank and Complete students get an 1,800 question Qbank.
  1. EssayBank - In addition to required essay assignments for class, we have given you a large collection of additional essay questions to practice with. Some of these essays are the essays used in your in-class Essay Workshops. The remainder are just for your practice. You can do the essays and submit them for grading online. Your responses will be routed to our essay graders who will correct them. An e-mail will alert you when the essays are graded and you can go back to the EssayBank or the Reports page to see how you did.
  1. Additional MBE Practice Exam - This is an online answer entry form for the "Additional MBE Practice Exam" which can be found in your MBE Simulated Practice Tests book. Take the test in the book but enter answers here and you will get the test graded immediately. Our test engine also provides you with an analysis of your results to see where your strong and weak areas are.

V. "Reports" Features

The "Reports" tab is a snapshot of results for all parts of the home study application:

Checkpoint Quizzes - The Checkpoint Quizzes pie charts show the aggregate % of red, yellow, and green sub-topics for all the checkpoint quizzes you have taken to date. Compare your pie chart for Aggregate Test 1 to Aggregate Test 2 to chart your improvement.

MBE Qbank - The MBE Qbank summary report shows the percentage of questions taken as well as Number Correct, Number Incorrect, Number Omitted:, and Number Not Reached.

Essay Bank - Shows you your scores for all essays completed to date.

Practice Tests - Shows you your scores for all practice exams completed to date.
